Two Tips to Remember When Ordering a Security System for Your Isolated Rural Property
If you've decided that your rurally located and very isolated property needs a security system, here are a few tips to keep in mind.
Spend extra on a system that sends alerts to a security centre
Not all security systems are designed to send signals to local security centres when they're set off; the ones that do may be a bit pricier than those that don't. However, if your property is very isolated, you should spend a bit extra on a system that can send these signals.
The reason for this is that, due to your isolated location, if an intruder sets off your security system by breaking in, you probably won't be able to depend on neighbours hearing your alarm or your own cries for help, seeing your alarm's flashing warning light, or noticing that, for example, a window has been broken, and then calling the authorities on your behalf (or coming to your home to help you themselves).
If the intruder is familiar with the surroundings and knows that there are no other residents nearby who could rescue you, then they might not stop their efforts to injure you or steal your belongings when they notice the security system has been set off, and instead might not leave until you manage to phone the authorities. As such, in this situation, it is important to have a system that can send signals to a security centre, whose staff can then make this call for you.
Purchase additional security lights for the outside of your home
The security system you choose may come with some security lights that you can place outside your home. Even if it does, you should still consider purchasing a few extra lights that will allow you to illuminate every section of your house as well as your garden and any sheds on your property.
The reason for this is that there are usually far fewer streetlights in rural areas that are not heavily developed than there are in towns, cities and suburban areas. Additionally, you may not have any neighbours whose properties are close enough to yours for their house lights to illuminate your property exterior.
As such, if your system doesn't have enough lights to illuminate every area of your property and there are no other light sources nearby, it will be relatively easy for intruders to prowl around your property's exterior at night, as the lack of light will keep them hidden from sight.
